Ideal for backpacking or canoe trips, this global positioning system
(GPS) is built-in to a compact wrist watch. Despite its tiny dimensions
(60% smaller than other GPS devices), it operates as effectively and
precisely as a larger system anywhere on the planet. Shield layers
prevent electrical interference between neighboring circuits, yet still
enable the sensitivity necessary to receive transmissions from the
twenty-seven GPS satellites in orbit. Its eight-channel receiver tracks up
to eight satellites simultaneously, ensuring accurate latitude and
longitude readings in as little as four seconds. Almanac data from
satellites is stored in the device, and used in conjunction with preset
area and time data to expedite position determination. A navigation
feature allows the user to input a destination, whereupon the GPS will
graphically indicate the direction and distance from the starting point to
that location. It has storage capability for up to 200 waypoints, and up
to 100 points of continuous route data continuous route data which will
provide a graphic display of a route to take back to a starting point. The
unit’s computer chip picks up GPS transmissions on a mere three volts
of power. The single lithium CR2 battery (included) allows up to 600
single readings, or approximately ten hours of automatic monitoring
with readings updated once per minute. Incoming GPS satellite data also
ensures that the watch keeps accurate time. The watch also has an
alarm, day, hour, minute, second and AM/PM display, automatic time
correction by GPS and area, and Daylight Savings Time on/off. Face
measures: 2 1/2" W x 2 1/2" L x 1 1/8" D. (5.2 oz.)
